The Board of Directors of the Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum wishes to
extend a sincere THANK YOU for your interest in attending the 2008
“Taste of the Trail” fundraising event. Our organization has
been honored with several important grants from major private
foundations and government programs, including a $1 million grant from
the Economic Development Administration of the U.S. Department of
Commerce and $345,000 from the Save America’s Treasures program.
Both of these funding opportunities require significant matching
dollars, so your attendance and participation at this year’s
“Taste of the Trail” is particularly important. With this
“Taste of the Trail”, the museum will essentially accomplish
the fundraising goals for this phase of the museum project —
restoration of the historic Knights of Pythias Hall, construction of
a new 4,500 square foot annex, and the creation of well–designed
museum exhibits.
We will also gather to celebrate the commitment and perseverance of a
community that believes our common heritage is a treasure that should
not be lost. Our journey started in 2000 when a small group of
dedicated citizen leaders from South Central Texas gathered to devise
ways in which this common historical bond could be preserved. From
this beginning, the museum has grown to an effort with widespread
support from throughout the region. The preservation of history is
not only a collection of historical buildings with artifacts and
archives to tell this rich story. History is about people — their
lives, struggles, successes, failures, shortcomings and triumphs and
the legacy that will continue long after all of us are gone.
When complete, the Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum will be more than a
collection of artifacts and the story of our past — it will
provide public meeting spaces for future learning and community
fellowship, offering much–needed amenities that give a community
appeal and vibrancy. While the ground floor will house the permanent
displays of the museum, the handsome meeting spaces on the second
floor will be restored to function as a multi–purpose community
facility. The second floor, containing approximately 7,250 square
feet, will provide space for lectures, meetings, receptions, traveling
exhibits, summer children's programs and other cultural, educational
and recreational purposes.
Thank you again for your interest in this exemplary project and, by
your attendance, at “Taste of the Trail IV”, being a part of
its ultimate success.
